Pregnenolone

Pregnenolone is the main precursor of various steroid hormones. It belongs to the group of neurosteroids that are found at high concentrations in certain areas of the brain. The CNS effects of pregnenolone include modulation of γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors and effects on seizure susceptibility, anxiety, depression, and memory processes.
Pregnenolone has been found to be a potent memory and learning-skill enhancer. Also, it has been found to exert a remarkable synergistic amplification of neural transmission.
Alone or in conjunction with other treatments, pregnenolone might be more effective in treatment of memory deficits than substances having narrower therapeutic windows.
Pregnenolone is further suggested to be useful in the management of schizophrenia.
In pre-clinical studies with MetP’s Pregnenolone Nasal Gel it was shown that the nasal route can provide relatively high brain exposure of the drug.

  • Currently there is no registered pregnenolone product available; so far it is sold as a dietary supplements in doses of 50 – 100 mg. MetP’s Pregnenolone Nasal Gel is fast absorbed without first-pass hepatic and intestinal metabolism and therefore can be applied in much lower doses.
  • MetP’s Pregnenolone Nasal Gel is available in two strengths. It is produced using an API of GMP quality, a Drug Master File (DMF) is available.
